The Summer Palace lies about 20 kilometers away from downtown. The large construction of the Summer Palace startet in the Qing Dynasty. Empress Dowager Cixi, the Dragon Lady came into power. She would come to the Summer Palace to live and administer state affairs in summer time every year until her death in 1908.
